  1. I think it would be correct to call them service level indicators as oppose to performance indicators ( SLIs) and the key task is to determine true SLA requirements of reliability for service

This is important to make sure there is a sufficient number of metrics, adequate monitoring facilities in place and plenty of alerts in order to detect any problems timely before there is an impact on the system which would be difficult to mitigate. Rigorous testing before the production release is an absolute must and don’t take any risks by skipping all types of tests, such as performance and stress tests by limiting tests to acceptance test only. Typical SLO would be some accepted latency metric value like 100ms for let’s say 98% of requests.
